So the good folks over at Illusive (our label) asked us (therefore me) to put together a list of 8 songs we're digging at the moment and write a little about them, all for a website that is dedicated to bringing that sort of voyeurism into an artists iPod directly to the public.

Weeks on, either the website don't wanna fuck with us - or - an Illusive employee is standing in the paint with the rock refusing to do the lay up. Either way, someonoe can get fucked. And here's my list. With pretty pictures. And links to the artists pages. Bang.

1. I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance / Black Kids (The Twelves Remix)

The first handful of times I heard this, I freaked out like it was a virgin listen again, running to the DJ to see what it was. Between playing it out myself and just smashing it around the house, I’ve almost killed it through overplaying, but it’s hangin’ in there.

2.Successful / Drake Feat. Trey Songs & Lil Wayne

Drake is the first rap artist to keep me interested in a long time. The production on this song is beautifully understated and the subject matter is so relevant to anyone who has ever felt the nervous excitement and fear of being on the cusp of success. The song has so much space, but it’s full of tension and emotion.

3. Heartbreak Scorcese / Snob Scrilla (‘96 Bulls Remix)

Even though this was blasting out of a studio door in my house while it was being crafted, and I heard most of the process as it happened, I still don’t know how this remix wound up being such a monster. It really does explode out of a sound system. It’s audio violence, with a touch of campy ‘90s eurodance piano.

4. Thunder In Your Heart / John Farnham

Farnsey recorded a couple of songs for the classic 1986 BMX movie ‘Rad’. This song is pretty much the perfect blend of AOR/Montage rock. The lyrics. The progression. The best voice to ever come out of Australia.

5. Curtis Mayfield / Move On Up

Before it’s rampant synchronization and re-use as the backdrop for Kanye’s ‘Touch The Sky’, this song was my theme song. There are so many Curtis songs that I love for different reasons, but I don’t know another song by any artist that is so positive and uplifting without being a gospel song or too hippy-tree-hug to reach me.

6. Nikki / The-Dream

The way this tune morphs out of the previous song on the album and into the one that follows it is amazing. When the chords change in ‘Fast Car’ and introduce the Nikki progression under the hook, it’s a goosebump moment normally reserved for the best kind of DJ blend - then the song drops and it’s a perfect example of the just how great the partnership of The-Dream & C.Tricky Stewart is.

7. When We Were Kids / The Galvatrons (Bag Raiders Remix)

Bag Raiders are hands down my favorite electronic artists. It’s a bonus that they’re local, but that’s got zero to do with why I like them. They just win. This remix takes a song which I already liked for it’s 80s rock nostalgia, thumps in some glitchy drums and smashes a trademark Raiders synth riff down your throat.

8. Monster / X & Hell (D-Cup Remix)

I justify being able to put this in here by the fact that it’s really the D-Cup parts I’m going back for, having heard our own music far too much, and not being that egotistical to fill this list with our songs. D-Cup has an awesome 90s / disco style and he used a cool talkbox-ish part for the verse which I love.

So you would think I would be happy about MAC Motorcycles making one of the most attractive bikes ever? NO!.... NO!NO! NO!NO!

Do you realize this makes it harder for me to get the whole set of awesome motorbikes?

Although I must say I am sceptical of the performance you will get from a 500cc single, I must be honest and say that its only because I wanna look tough and don't think that I could push it even close to its limits as soon as there is a hint of curve. But yeah, clearly this bike isn't about track times anyway.

BUT WAIT! there is more!!!!

The MAC Bike was so last week (as in last week in Australian Motorcycle News) so what do they have this week to make having the whole set of cool stuff even more impossible?

Yeah this thing! You probably can't tell from the picture but its Ducati's shot at a cruiser which Ducati says does not exist, and MAN! have they done something special. I heard its a 200hp V-Max killer 1200cc bored out to 1400 but I hear a lot of things so until its on the road I don't believe it (also if you see the picture close enough you can just make out 1098 on the black cover above the white belly pan).

One thing that I really find exciting is that unlike the MAC the Ducati has a legal mudflap on the back wheel that actually looks ok so it might make it on the road in Australia not looking like a great bike with Douchebag extra reflectors on a sports car bodykit (you know what I mean).

Ok ok seriously I too am exited about seeing it, but how is that as an example of how much guys like sick special effects? I mean seriously I don't know where to start with how Dumb Transformers really are. (OK, OK HEAR ME OUT BEFORE YOU HAVE A CRY).

Lets start with the Broad. She is good looking....... She is good looking and????? she takes her top off?? Nope, She is good looking and she looks like a girl you saw on a porno so now your imagining awesome robot porn??? Nope, She is good looking and looks like she likes sex heaps???? Hell no, No whoredacity whatsoever, she has that "I'm not that into sex" look, she is more fashion model than FHM model and what guy cares for fashion models? but yeah yeah I'll keep it moving.

Before I make my next point I must give credit where credit is due. I heard Megatron is now a tank. Much better than a gun. Actually maybe he didn't die??? Shit he was that much of a non event I can't remember if he died, all I can remember is there was notmuch to remember(tripple Douche for that guy). So that leaves one last potential Sickcunt....... MEGATRON!!!!! Yeah the name is cool,(good start) he is a big bad guy, (its still good).................. Nope thats it. A while back we nicked off to Sydney for a show with Snob Scrilla and a million others to welcome Sean of SS back to Australia and celebrate the release of his debut album (which you should cop if you haven't).

We were asked to interview each other (as in X interviews Hell and vice versa) for Sydney street press. I've posted the interview below as so many people enjoyed it.

Q: Weapon X: So, apart from our label paying for us, why would we make the trek from Melbourne to perform at Snob Scrilla's album launch?

A: Ken Hell: There is no drinking like interstate drinking, it's the whole no consequences thing, although Facebook makes drunken pantless photos coming to light more probable. Oh and I heard Snob Scrilla has good rap dancers. Plus we were drunk when we okayed it... and we keep our word. Well I do. I keep our word.

X: So tell the people, in lieu of our first choice Let Me Have Sex At You why did we call the album Million Dollar Sex Party?

KH: Well why did your mum call you your name? Shit, Million Dollar Sex Party is better than your name. You should change your name to Million Dollar Sex Party.

X: Okay. Apart from meeting guys, why do you go to the gym so much?

KH: I don't, I just say I do. I really go to the Veneto Club in Bulleen and play Bocce with old wogs. Which is also a lie because all the old wogs tell their wives they do that but really we all go to the bar and drink ourselves stupid while they tell stories of the old country.

X: Who would you invite to a Million Dollar Sex Party? And before you say anything, mine would be Rosario Dawson, that hot one from Misteeq, every girl from the "Where are you Yeezy" blogs. Oh and Tom Jones.

'The Combination' and their marketing choices

I saw the poster for this movie at Hoyts the other day. My first thought was "OMG! They finally got funding to make a Lebanese-Australian version of Kickboxer!". I did however just read this little piece of news, and learned that the movie is actually set in 2005 and based on the racially charged riots between white Australians and Lebanese in Sydney.

The synopsis of the film seems to borrow heavily from American History X (ex-con brother turns new leaf when released and fights to prevent younger brother from following his path of gangs and crime) and whether intentional or not, it's a striking similarity to a hugely acclaimed film which also focused on gangs, racism and hate crimes.

Returning to my initial reaction to the film's marketing, I can't help but feel they've misstepped here. The imagery in the poster screams 'dumb fight film' and looks like it's gonna be a Bloodsport meets Kickboxer affair. The name of the film sounds like a fight film when coupled with the imagery. The films slogan - and this is the clencher - 'No Second Chance', is definitely a slogan for an existing fight film. I mean, it has to be. I don't have patience to search but I'm sure that No Retreat, No Surrender 2 or Best of The Best 7 or something Lungdren/Van Damme/Stallone/Norris/Dudikoff MUST have used this. If not them, a B-Movie they turned down which never saw theatrical release. You know that period in the late 80s when there were hundreds of bad movies about ninjas or martial arts (See Dudikoff).

How many people will be turned off by this type of marketing? I'm actually interested in this movie now I have half a clue what it's about, but it was looking like Trojan Warrior revisited for a minute (or it's International release with the awesome name) and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

SHIT NEWS: Swayze is almost....Swayze

It has been reported that 80s/90s movie legend and iconic mullet-model Patrick Swayze has all but lost his battle against cancer. This is some sad shit. Aside from the fact that I have enjoyed the man's work on varying levels throughout his career, I've caught a handful of interviews with dude since he has been fighting the disease, and he comes across as a genuinely great person. Forget Dirty Dancing. Forget Ghost. Peep the below guide to essential Swayze viewing.

Red Dawn (1984)

Classic 80s Anti-Communist Pro-Firearm American action movie. Commie troops invade US soil and Swayze (Jed Eckert) and his boys (The Wolverines) grab their guns and represent. Super violent for it's time, super redneck. Classic. Allegedly about to be remade (read: legacy ruined) in a 'post 9/11' America (replace 'Commie' with 'A-Rab').

Road House (1989)

Possibly the greatest Swayze movie ever. This ridiculous yet always entertaining movie that features Swayze as a heroic nightclub bouncer known only as 'Dalton', saving a small town from a wealthy standover man who despite his age and stature is quite the brawler. This film is so violent. It's essentially end to end fighting, with occasional breaks for gratuitous nudity. Swayze rips a henchman's voice box out. This is one for the collection. Contains Very Frequent Violence, Course Language, High Level Sex Scenes & Extreme Mullet Swagger.

Donnie Darko (2001)

If you haven't seen this film we cannot be friends. You might be a big poof named Heez and struggle with suspending disbelief enough to enjoy it, or lack closure from the film's abmiguous ending and lack of explanation (Directors Cut helps with the latter) - or you might just agree with me about this film's place amoung the SciFi greats. In a supporting role, Swayze puts in the performance of his career as self-help seminar guru, Jim Cunningham. Unlike aforementioned roles, this one is essential viewing not for nostalgia or unintented humour - it's just fucking good. If you're behind the 8 ball on this go grab the directors cut. If you haven't seen the DC, it's worth it for the soundtrack tweaks, alternate scenes and the inclusion of excerpts from Roberta Sparrow's book at relevant points throughout the film.

I've been wanting to vent about this for a while, and it came to a head for me today something fucked.

Firstly, there are a few things I just don't wanna have to put up with - in order of importance:

Shitty formats (wmv, aac etc.)
Shitty bitrates (i'm lookin at you Mr. Jobs)
Shitty ass DRM shitty shit shit (Jobs, Bigpond etc)

Now the DRM thing, as annoying as it is, wouldn't bother me if there was a decent lossless format available, as I'd just have to do my downloading in one hit and burn em to CD for backup's sake.

I tried to legally download 'Get Shaky' by the Ian Carey Project today. I get all my electronic ish from Beatport, so naturally that's where I headed for this. BP had no less than four versions of the single, but I was restricted from purchase in my territory. Gaydom. Props to beatport, but fuck this regional BS.

Amazon i thought. Never tried it before. Australian Credit Card. Can't bounce.

I never fucked with bigpond due to DRM but hey, I thought i'd sacrifice a lil quality and convenience for the ease of grabbing it. WMV only. Get fucked you shitbags.

At this point I considered the devil's pie only to realise that I hadn't installed iTunes on my new notebook. I'm not planning on it.

I'd just installed Media Player 11 and saw it has a store link built in from Sanity's LoadIt. Searched for it (only one of the biggest songs on radio right now in Oz) and nothing came up.

This exhausted my commitment to playing fair. I mean, i get payed to DJ. I write produce and release music with the intent of making a profit. I even own a label and know how hard it is to stay afloat these days. But what the fuck is up? Pirate Bay came through and I still feel bad but i know I shouldn't as it's not my fault the music industry has dragged it's feet in updating the business model and delivery method of this content.

When Brooklyn via Cleveland guy Kid Cudi last graced Australia in June of this year, I wrote that it was dope (and rare) to have an artist who at least seems to be on the verge of making some exciting moves, come out to this country at this stage in their career. Cudi had a deal with A-Trak's Fools Gold and a cult-hit on his hands in Day N Nite (with some additional help from the Crookers) , and seemed to be in a good place as far as the new school of rap artists go. It was great to meet him and producer/DJ O Dot, and see him perform, but fucking horrible to see the poor turnout and promo.

Little did I, or anyone, know that his return would be so quick, and the reason for that return would be Kanye West. Now signed to G.O.O.D Music, appearing on one of 808's & Heartbreak's best cuts and a confirmed contributor to the creation process for said album, Cudi will not only headline this gig with Plain Pat and get support from our X & Hell, but also join Kanye on stage at Glow In The Dark. How bout that shit?

Come and see what I am talking about next Thursday 4th December @ Roxanne's with our friends MAFIA and A-Style keeping things moving earrrrrly.

So i reckon she died awhile ago. OD maybe. Dunno. But dead. No heartbeat. Someone (Ronson? Salaam?) did some black magic or buried the chick in a Pet Cemetary, and now she's a zombie. It's taken a while for her flesh to wither and decay, but the evidence is there (see middle pic). Pretty soon, she'll have gone full blown brain eater (see right pic). I'm guessin she died at some point between album completion and first single release, they've done a little HP Lovecraft-work on her cadaver because you can't promo tour when you're in a pine box, and now they are using this whole drug thing as a cover story for her zombidity. I have included a pic of her pre-undead for you comparison.

After a massive two day shoot throughout inner city Melbourne, we have a shitload of footage for the 'Dont Stop Movin' video. As you can see from the pics, the video will feature myself on a BMX, Hellvaro on skates, a host of extras on random modes of transportation and way too many cardboard boxes (no breakdancer). Hopefully we'll see some rough edits next week and a final will be up here as soon as possible.

You may have noticed we've been walking around the past few weeks with shit eating grins on our boat races. That's owing largely to the fact that recording for the next album is well underway and the first single has shaped up a corker. Most of the work is coming out of a new studio at my place, which has seen a pleasant resurgence of the 'all-nighter' and the somewhat elusive drunken-euphoric fluke.

The first single is called 'Dont Stop Movin' and is due for release in June/July all being well. It's nothing like anything we've done before and you may hear it in the odd club at the moment as DJs have been showing us a lot of love. It's Produced by Styalz Fuego and Myself. We aim to shoot the video in the next 2 weeks so we'll update with some pics from that.

The biggest change going into this album has been having Fuego on board producing the entire album with me. That and the fact that the last album was compiled over the three years prior to release and showcased our development somewhat, this one we're in a creative zone that is wholly different.

Nothing to really speak on about collabs yet. Production while handled chiefly by Fuego and I, we're taking bits and pieces from a few talented people and far from the usual suspects. The album is coming together is a very diverse and musical group of songs. I'm gonna up some video of some of the process in a few days.
